April’s Goals

Saturday, April 03, 2010

Over the last few days, I have been wondering what I need to accomplish for this month. The usual things around the house seem to be a bit too awkward to list in my blog. Others would not make since to anyone else but me. My current ‘to do’ list that I keep in my journal has over 600 items on it.

This list will be limited to twelve items that I want to complete. Some are items I should have already finished. Yet, I will have new items mixed in it.

Most of these goals will pertain to my writing. These are items I really need to accomplish this month.
  1. Plot out the remainder of my current sci-fi novel using scene outlines
  2. Finish the first draft of my current sci-fi novel
  3. Build a schedule for my blog and stick to it. (further explanation down below)
  4. Plan out and write five short stories
  5. Go through manuscript for questions and make sure they are answered.
  6. Read three books and write reviews for them
  7. Repair the floor to my closet and add shelves – have to clean out closet first
  8. Repair floor in bathroom
  9. Repair bicycle and start riding it
  10. Determine three areas on my web page that needs adjusting and adjust them
  11. Assist mom in the yard and garden
  12. Write four articles
  • 1) Two on backups
  • 2) One about index cards
  • 3) One yet to be determined

On the third one, I had already figured out what I wanted to do for several days but misplaced where I put the list. With the use of 4x6 index cards and a pocket photo album, I plan to make a daily ‘to do’ list with a card for each day. Then I can put the card into a sleeve of the album.

As a person who worked on computers years ago, that sounds like the non-technical way of doing things. And, it is. I do this sometimes because I do not want to turn on my computer at times.

On the sixth one, I have discovered that there are holes in my story where something occurred later in the story that needs to be foreshadowed in the beginning. There are items at the beginning that somehow got dropped as well. What I want to do is make sure everything lines up and that all questions are answered.

Now, the fun part will be the seventh and eighth goals. I have many things that I have to move out of the way in my room before I can repair that closet. A couple years ago the shelf that held the clothes and stored items on collapsed.

I plan to rebuild that shelf but also build some additional shelves so I can store other items that have made their way to my room. And yes, there will be items that will either find their way to either Goodwill or the parish landfill.

Then I plan to repair the floor in the bathroom. The trailer I live in was made in 1974 and they believed in that particleboard stuff. Whenever they get wet, they collapse. Needless to say, they had gotten wet over the years and the particleboard disintegrated.

Well, I will keep you up on the progress of my ten goals as the month goes on. What are your goals for this month. I hope you have a happy start to spring and Happy Easter.
